I’ve been given a brief to create a portfolio website to show my work and this blog to be completed by January. Today(November 14th 2013) in my concept and ideation workshop i looked through some already existing portfolio websites for some inspiration. I found these sites interesting:
I like this site because its very simple, its pleasing to look at and to use. I like the the background is a dull grey colour and the work that is shown is bright and vibrant, this use of colour made me very interested in looking at what was being displayed because of the colours.
I also liked this website because of its minimalism. It also uses a dull boring coloured background and then brighter colours for the important parts. I also like how its all got the same sort of illustration style and design.
This website was one of my favourites that i looked at. I liked the interactivity that was on this website, although it was minimal i think it had a good effect. The page looks very fun which made me think that this must reflect his personality. I also liked how the navigation worked on this site, i thought that the way that everything comes up in popups was good as you could just close that popup and be back at the splash page without getting to lost in a portfolio.
I think the toke was the most interesting portfolio to look at, although the loading screen was a bit annoying and the scroll bar was quite difficult to navigate with.
I like how the work is presented on this site.
I really enjoyed viewing this portfolio as the corner would ‘peel’ and allow you to see some of the code and there was also a game of snake on top of his portfolio, although these features were fun i think they distract you from what you’re actually supposed to be doing on the site.
I have been finding this helpful because i have been able to get an idea of what i want it to do, what it will include and who will view it. I am now on my designing part of the project and i have started some pencil sketches of what the site should or could look like. I have been looking at tutorials online and found a good tutorial for a dragging element for my website, which i might use within my website:
I also had a look on: http://tympanus.net/ and looked at the codrops tutorials and downloaded a few different source files and messed around with them to see what i could create with them. By doing this i have self taught my self a lot of coding language and have improved greatly with it as now i’m more confident.
