More website posting

Content is very important within a website, even with a good use of images and graphics, the person viewing the page is looking for what the page is about. As well as content being present, being able to find the relevant content easily is just as important. I have achieved this by putting links to my work (relevant content for future employers) straight on my home page, without having to scroll through endless pictures or writing, the user can find exactly what they are looking for by clicking the labelling links underneath my header image, or by clicking the image icons.

A website with poor language skills will suffer in popularity, to make sure that my site is spelling and grammar error free I will be checking over everything written and then asking multiple people to check over it for me.

Making my website easy on the eye as well as easy to navigate is important to me. I have made sure to use short sentences within my writing on my site, to avoid babbling on and confusing the reader and ultimately making them miss the parts they actually want to read. Avoiding too much colour is something I need to focus on next, as at the moment my logo and background are full colour and I am thinking of changing one of the two into a two tone colour design. This will make this less distracting for the user. My site is also responsive so the site doesn’t get scrambled up when viewed on other devices or just full screen. This will be beneficial for the viewer as they will get the full experience as it should be, and the user will not suffer with trying to navigate through a rather confusing interface.

My site also has a pretty quick loading time which means the user will be more likely to stay and view my page without becoming bored of waiting and navigate elsewhere.

Navigating to the main home screen is simple, all pages link back to it, apart from the blog and linked in pages as they are not within my site. To navigate to the home screen it is done by pressing the house shaped icon, I chose to use an image instead of words as it’s more universally understood and it also contrasts with the writing so that people that are skim reading through the page will not have to try to find the word ‘home’. This makes it easier for someone who clicked on the wrong page, perhaps.

Where I am at the moment

I have created a new header logo but i am still undecided on the border radius for my icons, although i think i may leave them at 10px for now. I have re designed the icons images and added new icons for my blog and linked in pages. I created these using illustrator. Once i made them i had another fiddle around with my logo and decided on this new one as i like it being colourful. I now feel as though my site is lacking something but i cant work it out, so i’ve decided that maybe it’s the background.

I have used the shapes i used with my logo to create a background for now, i changed the opacity to 10% and at the moment i’m quite happy with it, although im not sure it fits with my website or if its too distracting. I’m going to look back at it later and make my decision then. At the moment i think the background takes away from the small links and interactivity i have implemented within my site, which may not be such a good idea.

logo designs in process

I am currently working on a logo to sit as my header on my website, but at the moment i cant think of a good one and i keep changing small parts of the previous attempt, but each time i keep seeing something i dont like, and i may come back to the design of the logo later on in the project.

Tweaking of my final idea

Now that i have completed the functionality of my website so that it works how i want it, i’m playing around with the design more now, starting with the shape of the icons that display my work so far. Once i have chosen the shape i am going to then redesign the images to look more minimalist and then i’m going to look at whether i’ll be using greyscale with full colour roll over.

I started with square images but i experimented with some of the css and started to like some of the shapes i could create and now i’m in the process of deciding between circles or rounded corners.

Once i have made the shape and images the way i want them i am going to work on a background, i am thinking of just adding some noise into the background using photoshop. Although i like that the white background makes it look clean, but i am worried it may look boring.
